Healthcare delivery organizations face unprecedented financial headwinds with inflation, supply chain issues, and staffing shortages. Finding the right technology or services partner consumes a lot of time and resources that many organizations just don’t have.
Prior to cofounding KLAS in 1996, Kent Gale came to know firsthand some of the challenges healthcare organizations face when working with vendors. He and two colleagues at a healthcare IT company realized there was no one to track the performance of HIT vendors or verify the claims they made to customers and the market. As a result, they founded KLAS Research to give provider and payer organizations a voice and to uncover the truth behind the marketing.
You shouldn’t have to face your challenges empty-handed. You don’t need to wonder if you have the right technology in place. You shouldn’t have to spend valuable resources only to realize that a new technology won’t work for your needs.

KLAS aims to find the true story of what is happening with solutions and services by talking to as many provider and payer customers as possible. In a perfect world, we would have a full inventory of every live organization and every person who could give feedback, and we would randomly sample from this group. However, these conditions are understandably difficult to meet. While KLAS does not claim a perfect sample or statistical significance, we talk to a much larger group than would be included in an organization’s traditional reference check process.
We currently track more than 1,000 solutions and services in our database. As part of that process, we strive to work with every vendor to obtain complete client lists. In cases where a vendor doesn’t provide a list, we have multiple methods we deploy to find as many customers as possible. For example, we often find customers organically in the course of interviewing thousands of providers and payers each year. We also use online discussion boards, user groups, referrals from known customers, press releases, and more.
Where possible, we randomly select participants from within a vendor’s known customer base. While KLAS cannot control whether a customer will participate, we make every effort to build strong, mutually beneficial relationships with provider and payer organizations. These relationships lead to a higher response rate.
All provider and payer feedback is kept strictly anonymous. To ensure accuracy, we obtain the majority of our data through phone calls with respondents. All our researchers are highly trained and go through a rigorous training program to ensure excellence. In addition, exceptionally high or low scores go through close scrutiny before being used or rejected.
A small portion of the research KLAS collects comes from respondents who proactively submit feedback online. In these cases, additional steps are taken to ensure the data comes from valid sources and is in line with the data from the random sample. All surveys collected online are validated by a KLAS researcher over the phone, and any data coming from these opt-in interviews is quarantined and put through additional bias checks.
We want to make this website experience as smooth as possible, so we will work on resolving any issues as soon as possible.
