Healthcare IoT Security: Going Beyond Data & Asset Visibility

Amid financial constraints and pressures to consolidate, healthcare organizations are asking their healthcare IoT security vendors, "What's next?"

As healthcare organizations manage their complex, ever-growing ecosystems of connected devices, visibility into device activity is essential. And in general, healthcare IoT security vendors deliver that visibility for customers.

Amid financial constraints and pressures to consolidate solutions, healthcare organizations are now asking their vendors, “What’s next?” Many are looking for greater value and more meaningful visibility—the ability to act on insights, not just to know that risks exist.

This question is at the heart of KLAS’s recent Healthcare IoT Security 2026 report. We set out to better understand how healthcare IoT security vendors are meeting the needs of the moment and working to meet the needs of the future.

Visibility Has Become Table Stakes

In past years, simply being able to know what devices were connected to the network was a differentiator for healthcare IoT security solutions. Today, these solutions deliver strong device and asset visibility, and all KLAS-measured vendors are generally high performers, scoring over 80.0 on a 100-point scale.

Consequently, when healthcare organizations are making purchase decisions for healthcare IoT security solutions, they are starting to look beyond core device and asset visibility toward other areas, like strong segmentation, remediation, and post-identification monitoring. Vendors who are perceived as supporting those areas often see higher market energy (e.g., purchase considerations and selections).

Tangible Outcomes Are the New Differentiator

As financial pressures intensify for healthcare organizations, they are continuously scrutinizing their healthcare IoT security investments and looking for tangible outcomes—such as reduced manual work, faster remediation, and clearer risk prioritization—to prove value.

Part of a customer’s ability to realize value from their healthcare IoT security solution depends on how well the vendor supports and trains the customer. Some measured vendors do well in this regard, and as a result, their customers feel they achieve a strong ROI. In contrast, interviewed organizations using other solutions want their vendors to provide more proactive guidance and role-based training to better set up the customers for success.

Ensuring customers can achieve tangible outcomes is paramount, as streamlining workflows and automating repetitive tasks help healthcare teams focus their limited time on the issues that matter most.

AI/Automation & Stronger Integration Are Top Desires

When asked what capabilities they are most excited to adopt in the future, respondents often mentioned AI/automation and stronger integration.

AI and automation capabilities are still very early in the healthcare IoT security space, but organizations see a lot of promise, especially for tasks like prioritization. The reality is that AI needs much more development to really drive outcomes like reduced alert fatigue and faster remediation. Vendors are beginning to release AI capabilities, and KLAS will validate and share insights on those capabilities in future reports.

Another key improvement that organization are looking for is tighter integration. While most vendors offer integration capabilities, many organizations feel integration is lacking in quality, and they are specifically looking for integrations with other core security tools such as solutions for security information and event management (SIEM) and network detection and response (NDR). When integrations work well, healthcare IoT visibility becomes more actionable, trusted, and scalable. When solutions don’t integrate well, manual work increases, data trust erodes, and responses to risks slow down.

Where Will the Healthcare IoT Security Market Go Next?

The healthcare IoT security market is at an inflection point. As it moves beyond core data and asset visibility, healthcare organizations are reconsidering what they expect and need from these solutions and how they measure success. Organizations making purchase decisions are becoming more discerning and looking for solutions that can deliver outcomes via actionable insights and automation. Vendors who can cater to both security and clinical needs and demonstrate tangible value will see the most market energy in the coming years.

To get a deeper look at market dynamics, how individual vendors perform, and where gaps still exist, we encourage all to read the Healthcare IoT Security 2026 report. For insights on current purchase decisions being made in the market, check out KLAS’ Decision Insights.
