February Case Studies

Developing a Successful Inpatient Nursing Training Program at UCI Health

UCI Health wanted to create an inpatient nursing EHR education program that allowed nurses to efficiently use the EHR while providing patient care. Today, UCI Health has developed a robust training program for inpatient nurses, coupled with consistent support and a well-structured governance system. These efforts have boosted their Net EHR Experience Score (NEES) to put them in the 89th percentile among other Arch Collaborative organizations.

Empowering Physician EHR Success Through Robust Education at Seattle Children’s Hospital

Following the implementation of Epic’s EHR in October 2020, Seattle Children’s Hospital reevaluated their physician education program. Their goal was to ensure physicians could successfully use the EHR to provide efficient and effective patient care. This initiative led to several positive outcomes for Seattle Children’s, including a 27-percentage point increase in physicians agreeing that initial training prepared them well to use the EHR since 2021.

Fostering EHR Success via Effective Support & Shared Ownership at Dubai Health

Dubai Health aimed to create an EHR support model and a shared ownership and governance model that helped with EHR optimization and clinician experience. The results of this initiative speak for themselves: Dubai Health earned an 82.1 overall NEES, which is the highest recorded score in the Arch Collaborative as of December 2024.

Using Collaborative AI Solutions to Optimize Physician/APP Time at Intermountain Health

Intermountain Health has embraced computer-assisted physician documentation (CAPD) nudges in Solventum’s CDI Engage One product. Their focused efforts to improve physician and advanced practice provider (APP) understanding of clinical documentation integrity (CDI) have resulted in higher documentation efficiency and EHR satisfaction. Notably, physicians and APPs using Solventum CDI Engage One’s CAPD nudges saw a 22 percentage-point increase in inpatient chart completion during or immediately after rounds compared to their peers.

This improvement stems from their commitment to technical assistance and incorporating frontline input into EHR decisions. Their efforts have led to streamlined charting, enhanced functionality, higher quality care, and a user-friendly system. They are currently in the 93rd percentile for agreement that their EHR has the needed functionality.

Fostering Clinician Wellness & Staff Unity at SUNY Upstate Medical University

SUNY Upstate Medical University is taking significant steps to combat staff burnout. They’ve introduced a 24/7 mental health hotline, providing immediate support to clinicians in need. Additionally, they’ve organized community-building dinner discussions, fostering a sense of unity and camaraderie among staff. Both initiatives have shown positive engagement and a noticeable impact on overall well-being, with a 10-percentage point drop in burnout rate for physicians who participate in wellness activities.

Raising the Bar for EHR Satisfaction Through EHR Governance at Children’s Nebraska

Children’s Nebraska has achieved remarkable success in improving EHR satisfaction through effective EHR governance and shared ownership. Their approach included prioritizing the needs of their healthcare providers, and simplifying their systems. They also set governance standards to create a framework for decisions. As a result, the hospital has seen significant increases in user satisfaction and earned 2024 KLAS Arch Collaborative Pinnacle Awards for both physicians and nurses.
